Studio Musings - slow down and create something, anything...

"Art Enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time " ~ Thomas Merton.

Hey creative friend!

My newsletters have been a bit sporadic, just like my creativity these last two weeks. Sometimes even I struggle to make and create as life gets busier by the day and I find that I actively have to 'make' time to slow down and be present.

Often I am asked why is it so important and what's the use of silly colouring pages or faffing about with watercolour for no apparent reason...

My sweet friend... it matters because YOU matter, your mental health matters, your soul matters. If we don't train ourselves to slow down and be present we can't teach our kids and loved ones how and why to do it, and then we all just become hamsters stuck on a wheel at breakneck speed. We are human not robots, we cant run on the wheel indefinitely and hope we don't break... we need to get of the wheel, slow down and be present and there is no better way to do that then with art and creative activities.

That said I am fully aware of how hectic life gets and I know that making time for slowing down is difficult and feels overwhelming. That is why I am so passionate about teaching you how you can be creative with limited supplies in small pockets of time. You don't need a fully stock craft shed, mad artistic skills and hours of time. You just need the understanding of why it is important to slow down and the willingness to try.

Which brings me to: Two newsletters ago I promised you a series on 'coffee table art kits' based on my travel art kit. I mentioned that I have decided to turn it into a video series for my YouTube channel. So here is my update - I did film the first video but when I came to editing, I discovered that the microphone was acting up. This is not something that can be fixed in post-production, so I need to re-film most of the content. Please be patient as I am re-filming this week and hope to have the video done by next week. Stay tuned you will be to first to know when the first video is posted.

Get creative with me:

While you wait for the coffee table art kit instalments, join me this Saturday for a fun creative morning.

"Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment. It fashions its own perfect moments out of ordinary ones" ~ Bruce Garrabrandt Hey creative friend! Quick question: When was the last time you sat down to create just... because? Most of us stop making art the moment it starts feeling like "work" or—even worse—when we realize we aren’t the next Picasso. We buy the fancy supplies, stare at the scary white paper, and then go back to scrolling on our phones because it’s easier than being a...

"It takes practice, and the conscious building of daily ritual" ~ Julia Cameron Hey creative friend! We are nearing the end of August but it seems Winter is still holding fast and Spring is slow to emerge. I am loving the few days of sunshine in-between all the rain, I try and get outside with my on-the-go art kit as much as possible. One thing my mini art kit has helped with, is to hone in on a specific art medium and improve my skills on that one medium. The biggest issue I had was having...

"The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot" ~ Michael Altshuler. Hey creative friend! It's been a hot minute since my last newsletter. I did have technical difficulties and was unable to connect to send out any newsletters. But all is fixed and we can continue our discussion on how to identify time wasting activities and how you can redirect that time into a creative activity. I will also share my practical tips for managing some of these activities that are necessary but...
