"Creativity is a habit, and the best creativity is the result of good work habits." ~ Twyla Tharp

Hi Reader,

With no workshops on the studio calendar for the next two weekends, my studio table looks a little different. Instead of preparing workbooks and setting out water jars, I’ve been reflecting on how easy it is for creative play to get pushed to the very bottom of our busy to-do lists.

How often do you find yourself thinking, "I’d love to paint today, but I don't have two hours to clear off the dining table and pull out all my gear"?

I want to invite you to break that habit with me this week!

Welcome to all the new subscribers, if you are on this list you attended one of my workshops or signed up on my website and we are now art friends - stick around we are going to have so much fun together!

🎬 The 7-Day "Mini Play" Challenge

Over on my YouTube channel, I put together a simple 7-Day Creative Challenge designed specifically for real, busy life.

I’ll be completely honest with you: these aren't shiny, hyper-edited, high-production YouTube videos. They are raw, real, vlog-style check-ins recorded right at my desk. No fancy voiceovers or forced perfection—just you, me, a warm cup of tea, and five minutes of low-stakes creative play.

Here’s what we explore across the 7 days:

  • Bite-Sized Art: Working on tiny scraps and small pieces of paper so a big, blank page never feels intimidating.
  • Minimal Gear: Using just a few simple pens, a splash of watercolour, and watercolour pencils.
  • The "Success Kit" Setup: How I organize mini, ready-to-go supply kits so you can start painting in 30 seconds flat without setting up a whole studio.
  • Real-Time Tips & Techniques: Quick, informal tricks to build a daily habit without feeling guilty about time.

How to Join (It's 100% Free!):

You don't need to sign up for anything or buy any special tools. Just grab whatever scraps of paper and pens you have near your desk, hit play, and spend 5 minutes resetting your mind.

Whether you do all 7 days back-to-back or just dip in for 5 minutes whenever you need a breather, I hope this little series gives you permission to make messy, joy-filled art in the tiny pockets of your day.

Grab a mug, hit play, and let's create something small today!

Warmly,

T (Simply T)

P.S. Have a friend that you want to get creative with? Creativity is always more fun together! Feel free to forward this email to her so she can join in on the fun!

"Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment. It fashions its own perfect moments out of ordinary ones" ~ Bruce Garrabrandt Hey creative friend! Quick question: When was the last time you sat down to create just... because? Most of us stop making art the moment it starts feeling like "work" or—even worse—when we realize we aren’t the next Picasso. We buy the fancy supplies, stare at the scary white paper, and then go back to scrolling on our phones because it’s easier than being a...

"It takes practice, and the conscious building of daily ritual" ~ Julia Cameron Hey creative friend! We are nearing the end of August but it seems Winter is still holding fast and Spring is slow to emerge. I am loving the few days of sunshine in-between all the rain, I try and get outside with my on-the-go art kit as much as possible. One thing my mini art kit has helped with, is to hone in on a specific art medium and improve my skills on that one medium. The biggest issue I had was having...

"The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot" ~ Michael Altshuler. Hey creative friend! It's been a hot minute since my last newsletter. I did have technical difficulties and was unable to connect to send out any newsletters. But all is fixed and we can continue our discussion on how to identify time wasting activities and how you can redirect that time into a creative activity. I will also share my practical tips for managing some of these activities that are necessary but...
